You already know you have a customized piece of equipment in your Expediting unit. It’s safe to say an Expediting Straight Truck is not your typical Ryder, and an Expediting Sprinter or Cargo Van is not your typical family outing vehicle.
Permanently attached satellite equipment and panels and replacement parts for your custom sleeper aren’t available “off the shelf”. In most situations the parts must be ordered and custom fabricated to repair the damage, assuming they’re covered at all.
Most insurance adjusters are trained in personal auto or artisan contractor claims. Even some truck adjuster specialists are not aware of Expediters and what they need to operate their unit.
Finally, make sure ahead of time that your Agent will be able to help you obtain Loss of Use coverage if another party damages your Truck. So many Owner Operators end up stuck for weeks with no income while their unit is down because their Agent is not experienced in negotiating on their behalf with other Insurance Companies in obtaining the monies owed when an Expediter can’t work.
Before you purchase your policy is when to ask these tough questions…so if a mishap occurs later you’re happy with the answers.
